Why do people pay for antivirus software if there are good ones available for free?

What is the difference in the A/V software you pay 40 bucks a year for versus the ones you download for free from cnet.com? I have recently read many reviews about the AVG antivirus program which is free and I haven't found many negative comments about it. Does anyone have experience with AVG?

we have the free edition AVG and have never had any problems with it. updates every day, takes seconds. very reliable. is better than most big brand names in my opinion, as it picks up some virus threats that "well known" brands often miss. a big thumbs up in my view.

The ffree ones offer very little real support and are not always reliable. They are free so the public can test them out and find their errors. Then the company that made the software fixes it then SELLS the new product!

It's best to stick with the big names!
people like to waste money
Quite simple answer actually

1: They aren't aware that there are FREE Anti Virus prgs out there

2: They think that because it's FREE it CAN'T be any good.
